The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel

 



Library day is here again! We wrapped up Monster Week with our PJ movie day for the month. After Evie got up, ate breakfast, and went through most of her morning routine she got to watch Monsters Inc and eat a few popcorn balls. She invited her Kumi and Poppy dolls to join in and had a ton of fun vegging out. Then we got dressed and made the short drive downtown to get some new books.




In the summertime library day usually includes a walk to the local ice cream shop. They only have four flavors on any given day; vanilla, chocolate, the flavor of the week and the flavor of the day. The specials today didn't appeal to either of us so Evie went with a chocolate and marshmallow milkshake and I got a Buckeye sundae.









After we finished our ice cream and reading through some of our books we headed home to play the game we got this week. It's called Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel. It's a pretty fun and very easy game but it doesn't take much time to play so we got through a few rounds pretty quickly!








We wrapped up the night with open gym at a new one near our house. While I really loved the people at this gym (and Evie had a blast!) it's A LOT smaller than our previous one. I pulled her out of gymnastics in the spring because our weeks were so hectic but she's been begging to get back in so we're trying a few that are around before we jump back in! Either way she had a ton of fun. Next week our theme is weather. We have a lot of fun stuff planned so stay tuned! :)

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
