Chic-fil-A and surprise play dates...

Image
We are still taking it pretty easy this week with lots of outside play and coloring and board games. Evie finally got the hang of her powerwheel and has been zooming around on it non-stop this week at lunctime. The weather is cooling down some which has been really nice too. Today she got off to school without a hitch and when I picked her up it was time to go straight to dance. After dance class we grabbed some dinner. Evie wanted Chic-fil-A tonight so we stopped and ate outside and it was a nice little dinner date. I am excited that fall is coming up but also a little sad that our days of playing outside and eating outside and just BEING outside in general are quickly coming to an end with the impending cold of winter. So even though we got home close to her usual bedtime we took her powerwheel to the park and then she ended up running into two of her friends and having a short impromptu play date. Tomorrow she's out of school for an OT appointment at Children's so we can s...

It's time to get up on your feet and dance...

Today was dress rehearsal day for Evie's big recital. She has had a lot of questions about performing and I was worried she'd be nervous and maybe even freeze up but this kid is a natural born performer! Once she got up on that stage she just lit up. She was SO excited to be dancing on stage like JoJo Siwa. In fact when her turn was over she asked immediately if she could do it again!  After her performance she gets a flower and then that's it for dance this year! She's already super disappointed that she won't be doing dance for a few months but I'm sure the time will fly by. We started with gymnastics and the plan was to do dance over the winter/spring and gymnastics in the summer/fall but she is really stuck on dance now and not interested in going back to the gym for now so instead of swapping off we may add jazz into the mix since she really loves hip-hop but is really curious about jazz as well. I am so proud of her for sticking it out, working hard, and...

Sunshine and rainbows...

Today was a busy day for us! Since the earlier part of the week included appointments and we spent our weekend enjoying the summer weather we didn't have much time to get any errands run. Today we decided to knock some things off our checklist before dance class. After I got off work we ran to a few stores and then came home and had lunch. Of course Evie wanted to get in as much jumping as she could before we had to go to dance class in the evening so after lunch I let her go out and jump some more. We also got her spring cover on finally. Next up is a safety net but that's a project for another day! After that we headed off to hip hop! Evie really loves to dance but she's not been super keen on being told HOW to dance. She started off really loving this class and having so much fun and now she seems really resistant to going. While she's doing great and following along the moves really well she just says it's not fun for her anymore and she really wants to just d...

The bed with the slide...

Image
Today was an exciting day for Evie...yesterday her new bed finally arrived, and she started begging me immediately when she got up to build it. I've been wanting to get her a loft bed for some time now. She has a lot of doll houses, and it makes it very difficult to have much space in her room to play with them sitting everywhere, so this allows her to have her Barbies under her bed where she can easily get to them and play with them but also still have room for her toy bin and Barbie house in the room. The slide was an unintentional bonus! I just happened to find a bed that was in my budget that had a slide on it. But she LOVES that slide. She spent most of the day after it was built taking turns with her dolls going down it.  Tonight she also had dance class. They are really starting to work hard on their recital dance now and it's so much fun to watch her get so into the dance. I can't wait to see the recital in June! Evie is a little disappointed about the fact that she...

I came in like a wrecking ball...

Image
One thing Evie is really into lately is construction. Awhile back she saw an episode of Blippi about an excavator and she quicky added driving one to her list of future careers (also featured are: astronaut, ballerina, teacher, and performer.) So today we explored construction with a wrecking ball and a little dump truck.  We started stacking up foam blocks and knocking them over and then we added a little town from our Sago boxes and a road and some little workers.  She had dance this evening and they are starting to learn some of the dance for the rehearsal this summer so I'm really excited to see how she's going to do with that. She's really pushing me to put her back in gymnastics and spring can't come fast enough for either of us! Kindergarten enrollment starts next week so we're doing some overviews of all her letters and numbers to 25 this week and will try out some new themes after she does her eval. :)

You loved the amber skies so much...

Today we started the big job of cleaning out Evie's toy bins. We got everything in its proper place and in the process, we found a lot of her missing LOL dolls. So of course, after that happened all she wanted to do was play with them. This is a really easy activity for me to do while I'm working so I let her set them up and play with them for an hour or so.  Yesterday was an emotional day for me...in the evening I found out that my elderly neighbor had passed away. We hadn't seen a ton of her since the pandemic, but she was a super sweet woman and I'm going to really miss her. The day I moved in she brought me a flower and a letter that's still on my fridge about how she was looking forward to getting to know me and how she hoped I would love my new home. She also loved Evie so much and even planted a special flower bush in her yard to pick flowers from for Evie because she once said she loved their color. Evie also loved to pet her little dog through the fence, ...
