Sunshine and rainbows...

 

Today was a busy day for us! Since the earlier part of the week included appointments and we spent our weekend enjoying the summer weather we didn't have much time to get any errands run. Today we decided to knock some things off our checklist before dance class. After I got off work we ran to a few stores and then came home and had lunch. Of course Evie wanted to get in as much jumping as she could before we had to go to dance class in the evening so after lunch I let her go out and jump some more. We also got her spring cover on finally. Next up is a safety net but that's a project for another day!




After that we headed off to hip hop! Evie really loves to dance but she's not been super keen on being told HOW to dance. She started off really loving this class and having so much fun and now she seems really resistant to going. While she's doing great and following along the moves really well she just says it's not fun for her anymore and she really wants to just dance however she feels like and not how someone tells her to.


I'm a little sad about that because it's fun to watch her learn the moves and it's also nice for us to have that time to go out and socialize, but now that summer is coming up and then kindergarten we're going to be busy and she's going to be out around a lot of kids so after her recital in the next month or so she'll be done with hip hop. She says she wants to do gymnastics again so we'll see how that goes! For now though, she has about six more classes til her big recital! :)

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
