to seek out new life and new civilizations...
Today was a bit of a slower day for us. We played and did a little art and some worksheets. Despite being on the slower paced side we had a ton of fun. Most of what we worked on today (and things we wrapped up today) were a little hard to photograph so bear with me! I broke out the sensory bin today. We've been busy all week and haven't used it really so it was a good day to do it. This is the first time I've used rice for her and I had this brilliant idea to make it look like a night sky...
So most of the rice I painted a dark blue/purple and then what was left I painted with glow in the dark paint. It was hard to take a picture of but it was seriously SO cool. Every time you mixed it up it was different and it really did look like a night sky filled with stars. She had fun playing with it in the bathroom (where it was darker) and it was an easy cleanup since the floors are tile in there! I threw in some foam planets, glitter stars, and an astronaut Neville as well.
We made a Jupiter jar today as well. This was really fun and it's pretty calming to watch! We added paint, mica, water, and glycerin to a snowglobe jar and then when you shake it all the mica moves around and makes it look swirly like Jupiter. This is the second "calm" jar we've made this week and they really do help her chill out so that's a huge bonus.
Our glow moon lamp was finally dry today and we were able to set it up and watch it glow. I'm not sure if it was a result of painting with a spouncing brush, the texture of the air dry clay, or just the paint but it really had an interesting glow to it and you could see all the craters and indents. It's very authentic looking and it was so easy to make! I kind of want one for myself. 😂
We attempted a fairy jar last night as well. It didn't come out exactly like I expected it to but it was pretty cool looking anyway! It's definitely been a glow kind of week for us! We spent our afternoon putting up Halloween decorations around the house and singing and dancing like always. We have one more day left of Space Week but since it's library day I'm not sure how many projects we'll get into. It's been a super fun week though! Definitely one for the books. :)
