Fish are friends, not food...
Today was our field trip day! Evie got to go to the aquarium and see all sorts of fish and other aquatic animals and it was a perfect way to wrap up Ocean Week. We've done the aquarium before when Evie was a lot younger and she wasn't super into it but this time she was really interested in the fish which was exciting to see. She was particularly excited to touch the rays and to see the octopus.
The octopus wasn't out but we did get to do this fun coloring activity where you color a fish on a sheet of paper and then you scan it into a big screen and you can actually see your fish floating across with your name above it. She did this a few times and got so happy when her little fish started swimming on the screen.
We also got to see a few types of jellyfish and she had a lot of questions about them. Jellyfish have been a big topic this week and Evie has had a lot to say and ask about them. It was really neat to see the different kinds up close and it was a much better experience for her with them than she has had in the past when she has been stung!
After we finished seeing all the fish we got to go to the ray tank. I was really shocked at how excited and brave she was with this one! Evie is pretty timid around new animals and she doesn't typically jump in to touch things that might be slimy or squishy but she was really pumped up about touching those rays. She even asked for fish to feed to them and grabbed the little dead fish without any hesitation. We all gave them a few fishes and then we gave them some pets.;)
I've done this before but it's been awhile. They feel very smooth, slimy, and just a touch squishy. Kind of like a wet gummy bear without the stickiness. 😂 She had a lot of fun with this and we stayed at the exhibit for awhile touching them and watching them swim. There was a shark exhibit like this as well but she wasn't about trying to touch sharks! The sharks feel very rough like sand paper.
She DID, however, really want to do the shark walk. So we finished up the afternoon walking across the top of the shark tank. It was a really fun way to wrap up our week and we will definitely be taking more trips to the aquarium in the future! Next weeks theme is Halloween so be sure to check in to see what we get into. :)
