Some things never change...


 

We had a pretty fun weekend this week! On Saturday I had to work for a bit but we made the most of it and played some games while until I wrapped up. Evie had a little Halloween photoshoot in the afternoon so we got her dressed up and ready to go and spent some time playing outside for awhile until it was time to leave.  I got her this Queen Anna costume about a year and a half ago while I was near a Disney outlet and it finally fits so she was really excited to wear it around. 





We also set up a little doll skate park complete with half pipes and ramps and a little Tech Deck skateboard. These things always remind me of my brother because he used to have a ton of them when we were younger. She played with this for an hour or so and cried when I had to put it up so it might show up again in future weeks!






We had a bonfire Saturday night and ate some s'mores. Then on Sunday at Evie's request we both dressed up like Anna and headed to the zoo for Hall-ZOO-ween. Evie got a little bag of about 10 or so pieces of candy but as usual none of it made it home. 😂 It was a fun and busy weekend! I can't believe we're only two weeks away from Halloween. Time is really flying! Next week is going to be a fun one and we have a field trip planned so stay tuned to see what we get into. ;)

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
