An office is a place for living life to the fullest, to the max, to… an office is a place where dreams come true...


 

We did it! We finished our new office space! This room was originally Evie's room and when we converted her playroom to her actual room this room was supposed to be the office. However, when COVID happened I ended up working from home unexpectedly and things fell through the cracks. Evie was suddenly home from daycare and then from there our whole world fell apart and it seemed like we couldn't keep our heads above water between tragedies. So it just ended up being a space that collected clutter and wasn't usable. Early last year I started the process of making half of it into an art corner for Evie but even that got derailed in the end.



Now that I'm permanently at home and Evie is going to remain at home until the fall when school starts up it seemed like the perfect time to really buckle down and get it functional again. I'm amazed but happy that we managed to get it done over just about three days. We covered the desks with vinyl stick on wallpaper that I had for a project I never got around to, and spray painted the backs and the cube unit with a teal color that was for the same project. We had gold spray paint from some keys we painted awhile ago so we used that for the legs on the desk and the slide in on the cube unit. Then we installed some drawers under the desks, I got a paper towel holder to make Evie a paper roll that she can pull over her desk for messy projects or just color on and then tear off and pull and color again. Then we put on new drawer pulls for the cube unit. After that we just put back up all our shelves and art from the original space we had! (In this photo we hadn't hooked up my second computer yet so the cords were in my chair!)


We are really excited to start of the new year in our fresh new office. As a bonus, now that we're not working out of the loft anymore we had plenty of space to make Evie a corner for her dolls and also to make a game area where we can play all our family board games together. :) Now we have the rest of our vacation to relax and enjoy our hard work!

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
