Science, Sagos, magic and madness...

We're still having a lot of fun with Woodland Creature week. Today we talked about skunks and squirrels but I had set up this cute handprint hedgehog yesterday that we forgot to do so we did it today instead. For some reason today Evie was NOT about playing with her sensory bin and she told me in no uncertain terms that she was NOT playing with dirty leaves from the yard (nevermind that she plays with them all the time IN the yard) and asked for sand and Sago's instead so we swapped up her bin...

She had a lot of fun digging them out of the sand and pretending they were lost. We were going to do a little woodsy scavenger hunt today but since we opted to do her hedgehog art we skipped that and went straight to her favorite subject; science!

The plan today was to make slime "worms" but since she seemed to be having one of those days where she didn't want to touch "dirty" things and since we had a slime incident the other day which led to me having to google how to get slime out of carpet...we chose a different direction. 😂 So I sat her down with some clear water....

She got to add some color to each little cup...

...then we added some "magic" crystals. After awhile we watched as they disappeared and then she got to put a spoon in each cup and she was pretty amazed (and happy!) to pull up CRYSTALS...

When they're in the water you can't see them at all so she had fun dropping them in the water and then pulling them back up for a while and when she was done with that, we put them all into a bowl and she got to mix the water to see the color changes. THEN we played with the actual crystals. It was really fun and it's been a while since we did any chemistry. :) Two more days left in this week and still lots of fun things planned so stay tuned to see what else we get into. ;)
