Road trip: West Virgina!

 


We had a mini vacation this weekend and it was so much fun! On Saturday morning we went downtown to see Trolls Live! Evie wasn't happy about how high our seats were and, much like she did at the JOJO Siwa concert she spent the better part of the time before the show started crying and asking to leave. However, after the show started she calmed down and we had a lot of fun. She got a fancy lemonade with a flashing ice cube and a really cute Poppy headband too! 



After the show we headed up to Columbus to grab some lunch. Our first choice restaurant had a one hour wait so we walked up the street to a different one. Luckily it was a really pretty day so the walk was pretty nice and everything is so green and pretty since it's Spring. Definitely getting us really excited for more road trips this year!



 

 After that we headed to West Virginia to my cousins wedding reception. The reception was beautiful, the food was good, and there was plenty of good company...but Evie's favorite part was the DANCE FLOOR! She spent at least an hour or more dancing with anyone and everyone who would dance with her and when she couldn't find anyone she just did it by herself! We stayed until around 9 and then headed back to my aunt's house for a fun sleepover.



Before we headed home we snapped a photo for our 50 states map at the Grave Creek Mound. Right across the street is the West Virginia State Penitentiary and of course I had to snap a photo! I's super cool and gothic looking and was built in 1876! It's also supposed to be haunted and since it was shut down in 1995 lots of ghost hunters have been in there and they've found some pretty creepy stuff! Anyway after we snapped our photo we headed back home. It was a short trip but tons of fun! :)

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
