The Greatest Show-Evie...

 


It's the final day of Dance Camp 2022! Today they did jazz and showtunes. At the end they did a little performance which was based on The Greatest Showman. It had a little bit of ballet and some jazz in there too. Evie really loved today. I have considered putting her in a musical theatre class at a nearby studio but with hip-hop and gymnastics and school it just seems like too much. I think she'd love it though since she LOVES to perform. She is always the brightest kid in the room. Everyday one or more of the other moms would comment to me about how vibrant Evie is and I just love that. She really loves to show off and be in the spotlight and it makes her so happy to entertain people. I can't wait to see where those attributes will take her later in life and how they will shape her opportunities. I'm a little sad camp is over this year and Evie was DEFINITELY sad but we have about four weeks left until Miss Natalie is a weekly part of our lives again and we are both really excited about it! :)


It was still pretty rainy today and Evie has been BEGGING me to take her to see a Britney Spears concert (she is also adamant that she needs to see Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande so I hope she plans on getting a job soon to pay for them all 😂) but that is obviously not going to be happening. So today I came up with a different plan; an at home concert! I have an old DVD of Britney's Dream Within A Dream Tour (which is probably just before the time Britney shows would have started to get a little dicey for 5 year olds anyway!) so we made some popcorn and some glowstick lemonades and then we turned the lights out and watched the concert! We didn't get pics of the lemonade since it was a little dark but this was a huge hit and we'll definitely be doing it again sometime! :)

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
