Thermal polymers...

Today was a rough day for Evie. She woke up cranky and stayed that way through most of the morning and early afternoon. I had some small projects planned for today but since I knew she wasn't going to be fully engaged I decided to go a different route. First we worked on some of her numbers. With some help she made it all the way to 50 today! Then we started making some slime!

After we made it we added some glitter and small confetti pieces and THEN I showed her the magical part of it. It color changes! I gave her a bag of ice and let her press it into the slime to see what would happen.

She really loved watching it turn purple and then warming it up to turn it pink again! We used this sensory experiment to talk about how changing temperatures can affect the climate and ways we can try to prevent that from happening. It wasn't what we had planned for the day but it was fun, we stayed on topic, and it helped her to calm down a little before school started. She wasn't 100% happier when we headed down to the bus and she cried all the way there but once she saw her bus friend she cheered up considerably! Here's hoping she has a better day once she gets there. Two more days of climate week left! :)
