Walking on clouds...

 


This morning when I got up for work I had a pop up on my phone about a fog warning. When I looked outside I could hardly see the neighbors house behind me and I just KNEW Evie was going to be excited when she woke up to see that we were in a cloud. Fog is one of her favorite weather phenomenon's. She just loves the idea that she is inside of a cloud that's on the ground. So this morning when seh woke up, even though it had already dissipated some we went out for a morning walk and she experimented with how things looked the closer or futher away she got to them.



After awhile we came in for breakfast and I let her have some computer time. She chose to make some music and play with Elmo today. There are some really fun and educational games there and there is also a ton of art she can make which she loves.



By afternoon it was sunny and clear again. Today is hat day at school so she got to wear her rainbow bucket hat and she was very happy about that. Of course we had to swap it for her helmet for the ride down! In the evening we got to go visit Nana again. Summer is on it's way out this week and I can't wait for all the fun stuff we have ahead of us in the fall. Tomorrow is the last day of summer so I'll update on our summer bucket list as well! I think we did a pretty good job with it! :)

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
