Monster Making and Art kits...

 

Today I set up a little creation station for Evie. I found some trinkets at the dollar store for this and also some tiny scented play doh's. Then I added eyeballs and beads and some things we had around from last year to help fill it in. Evie was really excited to make some monsters when she found it today although she was not the hugest fan of the scents of dough.



She made me several witches and also this rendition of Anna from Frozen (notice her streak)! It was fun to watch her create and since the doh was only $1 for 6 I didn't have to worry about if she mixed them up or let them dry out which is always a win! Today was also Golden Slothtato day! We have a little Toca Boca capsule dispensing machine and once a week if she has completed all her chores INCLUDING the optional ones she gets to put a coin in and get out a Golden Slothtato. This week her prize from the box was an art kit! 



Typically her golden slothtato prizes are activities or outings but I managed to snag this kit for really cheap on Amazon and it has SO MANY things inside. She was super excited to use it and got to work right away making me some pictures. I love that she is so into art right now and the way her little face lit up to see this kit was absolutely priceless. So worth it. <3

Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. Competition Cheer

  This morning when Evie got up she ran over to her chalkboard so she could leave me another little hint about how she really wants to join competition cheer at her gym. She showed me all her tricks, reminded me that she's learning to tumble, and also did a little made up cheer for me. A few weeks ago she saw a flier at the gym for cheer and she has been begging me to let her join but honestly, between school, dance, gymnastics, and general life we just really don't have the time. I can't see being in the gym another day a week and then there is also tryouts and of course the actual competitions. I think she is really capable of being dedicated and I know she could do amazing at it if she really applied herself but I also think she'd burnout doing so much. I also worry about how stressful competition can be for younger kids. So despite her pleas she will have to wait at least another year for it.  At lunchtime she got to paint a little ceramic witch. E is for elephant

  We're kicking off "E" week by making our handprint animal. This week we chose to do an elephant. I saw some cute eagle handprint crafts but this one seemed easier and Evie really likes elephants too. She's eagarly awaiting G week so she can do her favorite animal; the giraffe! We had cooking day today too! I typically save cooking for later in the week but this one just fit in so well with elephant day that I figured why not. We made these faux elephant ears (they're cinnamon rolls folded differently) and Evie use the extra dough to cut out some elephant shaped "cookies" that we put cinnamon and sugar on top of.  She had a lot of fun playing with the extra dough too! :)
