St Patricks Day and the rainbow scavnger hunt...

 


St Patricks Day is here! Since Evie has a big class party today and I have conferences we kept it pretty simple today. I set up a rainbow scavenger hunt and at the end of it, of course, was a pot of gold coins! She LOVES scavenger hunts so she wanted to repeat this one a few times and since you can mix up the clues however you want to we were able to repeat it in different ways which was fun.

 

Then it was off to school! Her conferences went well but she's had a very tumultuous year at school. Her teacher was out a few times early in the year, she had some issues with her HSP on the bus and then as soon as those things resolved her teacher ended up in an accident and hasn't been back in weeks. Not only was that upsetting for Evie but it also resulted in her class being shuffled around, having new subs everyday, and finally getting a long term sub who is now also leaving. It's been a mess and to top it off she's recently had issues with the person next to her in class bullying her. Calling her names, antagonizing her, and even writing on her clothes and shoes. I'm surprised with all that she's been able to continue to do so well but I'm glad she has. Next week she gets her seat moved and hopefully her teacher will recover and return soon. <3

Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. The Silver Line to Salem...

  It's the first full day of vacation and we got up early this morning and in true east coast style grabbed some Dunkin' Donuts to eat while we headed for the train. Our apartment is a short walk to the bus (or train if we choose) and then right onto the T which is nice but we still ended up walking almost 7 miles today and Evie did about three of them like a champ! The rest she needed a lift for. lol... After a short train ride we took a scenic walk across the Charles River and then it was onto the Museum of Science. Although this is my fifth or sixth time in Boston in recent years I have never done the Museum of Science and it looked really exciting. While we were there we got to play with electricity, robotics, weather, mirrors and lights and a ton more. Evie really liked this interactive station where she could try to guess what the animals were based on their skulls and teeth. Running up that hill...

  It was finally warm enough to go outside for awhile today! It's been very chilly in the mornings lately and while I can appreciate that it's no longer too hot to exist at 10AM I'm also not loving being cooped up inside all day. Evie isn't either. We were both in much better spirits today after being able to spend our lunch outside.  We made some chalk art, made up stories about the characters, and ran and played for awhile before it was time to get ready for the bus. Even then Evie was happy to race me down to the stop and ran around playing and singing while she waited for it to come. Fall is heavy upon us but we were both happy for a little sneak of summer today. :)
