The Bee and the Three Headed Lion...

 



Today was an interesting day for us and man was it full of adventure! First there's a bee that's been buzzing around our backyard and driving us crazy all week. We thought it was a bumblebee but we discovered later that it's actually a Carpenter bee. This little guy likes to get right up in her face and buzz around our head like he wants to start a fight! we looked around and couldn't find a nest nearby but we decided to relocate this little guy anyway. The cats are often out on the patio with us and I just really didn't want anyone to get stung. It was pretty easy to catch him so we put him in a little jar and took him with us to the bus stop. As we stopped to let him out of the jar we found another surprise, a dandelion with one stem and three flowers! I have never seen anything like it and Evie just had to have it. She picked it and used it as a fairy wand while we waited for the bus, and then I took it home to add to her collection of little things we've found this spring. It was an exciting day for both of us.

E is for elephant

  We're kicking off "E" week by making our handprint animal. This week we chose to do an elephant. I saw some cute eagle handprint crafts but this one seemed easier and Evie really likes elephants too. She's eagarly awaiting G week so she can do her favorite animal; the giraffe! We had cooking day today too! I typically save cooking for later in the week but this one just fit in so well with elephant day that I figured why not. We made these faux elephant ears (they're cinnamon rolls folded differently) and Evie use the extra dough to cut out some elephant shaped "cookies" that we put cinnamon and sugar on top of.  She had a lot of fun playing with the extra dough too! :)

The Silver Line to Salem...

  It's the first full day of vacation and we got up early this morning and in true east coast style grabbed some Dunkin' Donuts to eat while we headed for the train. Our apartment is a short walk to the bus (or train if we choose) and then right onto the T which is nice but we still ended up walking almost 7 miles today and Evie did about three of them like a champ! The rest she needed a lift for. lol... After a short train ride we took a scenic walk across the Charles River and then it was onto the Museum of Science. Although this is my fifth or sixth time in Boston in recent years I have never done the Museum of Science and it looked really exciting. While we were there we got to play with electricity, robotics, weather, mirrors and lights and a ton more. Evie really liked this interactive station where she could try to guess what the animals were based on their skulls and teeth. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
