Today started off fun and relaxing. We headed out to Oakwood beach and set up for a fun day of sand, sun and waves. Evie had a ton of fun playing in the water and building sand castles. But somewhere along the way things went south....QUICKLY. We had a little flimsy umbrella for the day and I had gone to sit under it for a bit to get out of the sun when the wind started to pick up. Not surprising I mean, this is the WINDY CITY, right? But as quickly as it picked up it started to get really ANGRY. I decided to put the umbrella down to keep it from breaking or flying away but as I was struggling with the clip I suddenly heard Evie screaming and running past me yelling that the sand hurts. Swiftly the umbrella clipped up (pinching my finger in the process) and at that point, with blood running down my hand I started to feel the sting of the sand pelting me EVERYWHERE. In my eyes, my ears, all over. I stuck my finger in my mouth to stop the bleeding, threw some towels over Evie to try to keep the sand from hitting her, and we quickly packed up and headed back to the car. Luckily the pinch wasn't terrible and Evie calmed down when we were out of the wind. But we were all incredibly sandy! We spent the rest of the day at the pool and packing up for our trip home tomorrow.

As a final cap to our trip we visited Medieval Times for dinner. I was nervous how Evie would do with this. I made sure to get us lower seats since heights tend to bother her and we brought her noise cancelling headphones so that the noise levels wouldn't be too bad. I was mostly worried she'd be bored. But she LOVED it. From the queen to the jousting and even the fights she was absolutely glued to the edge of her seat. She got a flower from our knight and I had to practically drag her to the bathroom because she didn't want to miss the show even though it was clear she had to go. We all had tons of fun and our knight won which was awesome too. This is something we will 100% do again next time we are close by one. It was a nice end to an up and down day!
