Life is a highway...

 

It's been an eventful and yet also very chill weekend for us. Saturday was Evie's day to see her dad so we drove out to a park so she could play with him for awhile and then we grabbed some lunch and headed home. Evie really wanted to play when we got in which was fine with me so I started set up for next weeks preschool theme which, if you didn't catch the other day, is monsters. Unfortunately, technology was not on my side and I spent hours fiddling with my cutting machine and computer before finally admitting defeat and deciding to change course on some of our activities. Disappointing but I still managed to get a whole week of fun stuff set up so it wasn't all bad! 





On Sunday I got up early to workout and get a few things done and of course Evie decided to wake up early as well. She saw me doing some yoga and wanted to join in so I ended up turning on some kids yoga for her to do while I finished up the rest of my cleaning and got some things done. This kids yoga program called Cosmic Kids Yoga is on YouTube and it's SO cute. They tell stories along with the yoga moves to keep kids really engaged and make it fun.





After her yoga she demanded confetti pancakes and following the theme for the weekend we did not have any nor did we have pancake mix. So we made some from scratch and they turned out really yummy. We rounded out our morning with a bike ride around the neighborhood and some play time at the park. Then we came home to Evie's SagoMini box on the porch. So we unpacked it and took Jinja the cat on a little ride through make believe world. 






Evie has quite a few of these boxes and one thing I love about them is that they pack right back up into their box so they're REALLY easy to travel with and have fun interactive play. One other thing that's cool though is sometimes you can combine them for extra adventures. We combined the Road Trip box we got today with the Fairy Tales box we already had and were able to make up so many stories about Jinja's adventuring. We have a Vacation box we might throw in the mix on another day. Kumi and Jay got in on the action too and Evie set up little places for them to visit all over the house. 



We got so much done this weekend but as usual it flew right by. Looking forward to the fun things we will get into next week!

Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. The Silver Line to Salem...

  It's the first full day of vacation and we got up early this morning and in true east coast style grabbed some Dunkin' Donuts to eat while we headed for the train. Our apartment is a short walk to the bus (or train if we choose) and then right onto the T which is nice but we still ended up walking almost 7 miles today and Evie did about three of them like a champ! The rest she needed a lift for. lol... After a short train ride we took a scenic walk across the Charles River and then it was onto the Museum of Science. Although this is my fifth or sixth time in Boston in recent years I have never done the Museum of Science and it looked really exciting. While we were there we got to play with electricity, robotics, weather, mirrors and lights and a ton more. Evie really liked this interactive station where she could try to guess what the animals were based on their skulls and teeth. Running up that hill...

  It was finally warm enough to go outside for awhile today! It's been very chilly in the mornings lately and while I can appreciate that it's no longer too hot to exist at 10AM I'm also not loving being cooped up inside all day. Evie isn't either. We were both in much better spirits today after being able to spend our lunch outside.  We made some chalk art, made up stories about the characters, and ran and played for awhile before it was time to get ready for the bus. Even then Evie was happy to race me down to the stop and ran around playing and singing while she waited for it to come. Fall is heavy upon us but we were both happy for a little sneak of summer today. :)
