Lions and tigers and bears!

Today got off to a frustrating start. For some reason Evie woke up very needy and cranky and she did NOT want to go to preschool at all. She spent most of her morning crying instead of getting ready and asking me if she could please just stay home with mama. On another day I might have said OK but this is her last week in preschool and working multiple jobs with a toddler unexpectedly underfoot (especially a needy one) isn't easy! So I promised her I'd pick her up early today, just after lunchtime.

I didn't have a definite idea what we'd do with our afternoon when I made that promise but when I went outside during my work break and realized how nice it was it crossed my mind that it might be a perfect day to visit the zoo.

It's been awhile since we've been. We spent most of our summer swimming and riding the rollercoasters at Kings Island and it's just been SO hot outside that walking around all day hasn't felt like the best plan but today was absolutely perfect. We got to see kangaroos, penguins, and even Fiona and her mama Bibi were out. Kumi came home today (yay!) so Evie was excited to take her into the bug house but she was pretty bummed there are no ladybugs in there.

We showed her the lions instead and then rode the train and ate ice cream that was bigger than our whole heads! It was a really fun girls day and a great way to spend our afternoon. We ended our evening at the pool even though it was a bit chilly. We were the only ones there and we got to take advantage of it by jumping and racing and enjoying the whole pool all by ourselves.

...and as promised Kumi showed up today with a postcard for Evie and matching bracelets she made for her and Evie to wear. Evie thought it was so fun that she made a mess of sand on the table after her trip to the beach. She enjoyed it so much that I might take Kumi on some planned trips in the future. I'm glad her journey was short this time though because Evie was pretty sad about her absence.  Just two more days and we're on the home school journey! Time is definitely flying.
