When in doubt, go to the library...

 


It's finally Friday! Despite having a short work week it certainly has felt like a long week. Fridays are library days for us and it was such a nice day to go. We made the short drive downtown and Evie got to make the little walk to the library. She hasn't been since last year just before they shut down for COVID so while I definitely remember our previous trips she did not. She was SO excited to see all the books and games and was in absolute SHOCK that we didn't even have to pay for our books. It was really fun for me seeing her experience such an ordinary place for me in such a magical way. I also love that she is a huge book lover like her mama. 




After we chose our books we walked down to the little ice cream store and got a cone to eat while we read them. They make the ice cream daily and you never know what flavours they will have at any given time but Evie is a classic type of girl and loves to get vanilla so it worked out. We stopped by a little fountain to wash off the sticky before we headed home!








Career week is wrapping up today and we learned about service careers today. So we set up a little cafe and she served me food while I worked. We talked about how important servers and baristas and retail workers are and how difficult their jobs can be. Evie found that out first hand when I found a worm in the salad she served me. 😂








Later in the day we also talked about other types of service jobs like cosmetologists and nail techs (like mama)! Even though I only use my license here and there these days I still remember how tough working these kind of jobs are and I felt like it was a good one to cover for our final day.  Evie got to make a little monster pretty and also did my hair and nails a few times with this little salon.







Throughout the week we talked about community workers as well like police, firemen, and even the military. It was fun to teach her about all the different types of jobs people have and even though she's still stuck on being a ballerina it had her brain working thinking about other options!







We wrapped up today with her princess game from the library. This one was pretty fun and she loved matching up the characters to parts of their stories. It was another busy but fun filled day. Next weeks theme is monsters and it should be a really fun one so stay tuned to see what we have planned! :)

Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. The Silver Line to Salem...

  It's the first full day of vacation and we got up early this morning and in true east coast style grabbed some Dunkin' Donuts to eat while we headed for the train. Our apartment is a short walk to the bus (or train if we choose) and then right onto the T which is nice but we still ended up walking almost 7 miles today and Evie did about three of them like a champ! The rest she needed a lift for. lol... After a short train ride we took a scenic walk across the Charles River and then it was onto the Museum of Science. Although this is my fifth or sixth time in Boston in recent years I have never done the Museum of Science and it looked really exciting. While we were there we got to play with electricity, robotics, weather, mirrors and lights and a ton more. Evie really liked this interactive station where she could try to guess what the animals were based on their skulls and teeth. Running up that hill...

  It was finally warm enough to go outside for awhile today! It's been very chilly in the mornings lately and while I can appreciate that it's no longer too hot to exist at 10AM I'm also not loving being cooped up inside all day. Evie isn't either. We were both in much better spirits today after being able to spend our lunch outside.  We made some chalk art, made up stories about the characters, and ran and played for awhile before it was time to get ready for the bus. Even then Evie was happy to race me down to the stop and ran around playing and singing while she waited for it to come. Fall is heavy upon us but we were both happy for a little sneak of summer today. :)
