Under the sea...


 

It's Mermaid Day! Evie was SO excited for this theme. This morning I greeted her with a mermaid tail and she ran to grab her Ariel costume dress and her tail that her nana made her. We have one movie day a month and today was it! We watched the live version of The Little Mermaid for the first part of the morning and then we made these fun thumbprint pictures. Evie wasn't' into filling in her whole tail but it still came out pretty cute.





These dress up weeks are fun but buying costumes isn't cheap so I DIY'd my tail last night using some felt I already had, a glue gun, and some glitter. It was really easy to just pop over my feet with some leggings and Evie thought it was super fun. It will go in her dress up box at the end of today in case we need to use it again!






For our snack time today we made mermaid pudding. We swirled purple and blue together and added sprinkles, whipped cream and Swedish fish (not pictured). Not the healthiest snack today but it's fun to have a treat every now and then too. Evie mostly ate the whipped cream. 








We wrapped up mermaid day with a mermaid bath bomb and a trip to Nana's. Family days are always tons of fun and she loves hanging out with her cousins and Nana and Pappap. <3

Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. The Silver Line to Salem...

  It's the first full day of vacation and we got up early this morning and in true east coast style grabbed some Dunkin' Donuts to eat while we headed for the train. Our apartment is a short walk to the bus (or train if we choose) and then right onto the T which is nice but we still ended up walking almost 7 miles today and Evie did about three of them like a champ! The rest she needed a lift for. lol... After a short train ride we took a scenic walk across the Charles River and then it was onto the Museum of Science. Although this is my fifth or sixth time in Boston in recent years I have never done the Museum of Science and it looked really exciting. While we were there we got to play with electricity, robotics, weather, mirrors and lights and a ton more. Evie really liked this interactive station where she could try to guess what the animals were based on their skulls and teeth. Running up that hill...

  It was finally warm enough to go outside for awhile today! It's been very chilly in the mornings lately and while I can appreciate that it's no longer too hot to exist at 10AM I'm also not loving being cooped up inside all day. Evie isn't either. We were both in much better spirits today after being able to spend our lunch outside.  We made some chalk art, made up stories about the characters, and ran and played for awhile before it was time to get ready for the bus. Even then Evie was happy to race me down to the stop and ran around playing and singing while she waited for it to come. Fall is heavy upon us but we were both happy for a little sneak of summer today. :)
