...but I know I'm laughing on the car ride home with you

 

This week we're starting family week in preparation for Thanksgiving next week. It's so crazy to think it's only one week away! I had a few arts and crafts projects prepared for today but Evie got up late and we decided to throw our plans away and have a Mama/Evie day. So when I got off work we went to the library. We used to go every Friday but things got hectic the last couple weeks and we haven't been in about a month now. 





Since it's getting colder we really took our time and sat and read a few before we made our final picks. We read a TON of books and we've run through most of the popular ones already so it's always fun to see what things we can find.







After the library we usually head down to the local Whit's Custard but they're only open a few days a week now and will soon close up for the season. So today we went and got lunch and milkshakes from Sonic. It's been a long time since we've been and Evie has never gotten to sit in the car and eat it so she was VERY excited about it. We watched a few episodes of Olaf Tells a Story while we ate. They're pretty cute and funny and not very long so it was a perfect pick. 







After lunch we came home, played a game of Sorry, and then pulled out the EPIC amount of Barbie stuff this kid has collected and just played together for a few hours. Not only was it lots of fun but it also gave me an opportunity to reorganize all of her stuff and get her room cleaned up, which was on my list of actual things to accomplish today. 😂






After dinner we read a few of her new books together. It was kind of a lazy day and definitely not what I had planned but...some of the best days are the ones where you just go with the flow. ;)

Seed paper...

  Today we made some seed paper! It was chillier out today so we tried to squeeze this one in before it got TOO cold. Yesterday we shredded up some paper we got from Nana and soaked it in some water.  Then Evie got to add some dye into the mix to try to make it look pink. This worked pretty well but it wasn't as bold when the paper dried later. She had fun mixing it up and then we took it to the blender to get it really nice and pulpy.  After that we took it outside to smoosh out the water over a screen we made. Last we turned them out onto towels and Evie got to add seeds. I know you can add them into the pulp mix as well but I didn't want them to sprout and the paper is going to be wet for a few days at least since it's chilly and rainy out now. Once these are done we will cut then into shapes and use them in her bee garden next month. She really had a lot of fun with this one and it was such a cheap and easy thing to do. Arts AND Crafts...

  Today we had art day and worked on some fun projects together. I told Evie this morning that it was arts and crafts day and she was SUPER excited because other than STEM day, arts and crafts are her favorite. We started off this afternoon with some potato stamping. I set this up while Evie was doing her quiet time and when I presented her with the paint, canvas, and potato she said to me "Mama I thought that potato was my snack!" 😂😂 She was definitely relieved to find out it wasn't for eating.  She had a lot of fun smashing it around and combining the colors to make her picture. After we finished our potato painting we had some free play and made chalk houses for her LOL dolls for awhile. We also made use of the sunny day (the first in awhile!) to plant a tree in the yard together. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS.
