All the assessments...
This week we've been working a lot on some review and easing back into more activities. Evie has been spending her morning coloring, making art, and riding her power wheel as the last days of summer start to trickle into fall. Once it's colder we'll be stuck in the house so we want to take advantage of these last mornings we can still run around and play. We did some number review this morning and then I had Evie sit down and do an assessment on the computer. She has over and over again told me how school is so boring for her and she "already knows all of this" so I wanted to see how accurate that really was. Most of her homework is definitely things she knows but it's also been a lot of just handwriting practice and a little bit of math. But surprisingly she rated pretty high on the assessments. She needed a little help setting up some of the larger problems (she still can't really read yet) but ultimately landed on a total score that put her at a second to third grade math level. After she finished that she wanted to do another one so we did reading and language as well and she ended up on a 2nd grade language level and even spelled several words by sounding them out with no help, and she is already at a 4th grade science level. So it might be worth looking into having her assessed into a higher grade than 1st if we decide to continue public education next year. If we don't I will just choose higher level curriculums for her.
She's getting really good at riding her bike too! (don't worry she does wear a helmet this was a quick pic before we started)! She's been riding it to the bus stop each afternoon and around the park in the evenings. Next week she is back to weekly gymnastics so we'll see how things go as life gets even busier! ;)
