Truffles, mandrakes, and pirates

 

Today was a busy day! This afternoon Evie had an appointment at Childrens that we've been waiting six months for. Usually these are pretty painless and go rather quickly but today everything seemed to be going sideways. We got there early as we typically do but ended up having to wait an hour to see a nurse. Evie's nurse told her he was going to make her into a pirate for a bit with an eye patch which prompted Evie to tell him a pirate joke which was pretty funny. After that they moved us back to the waiting room where we sat for another two hours or so before we finally got to see the doctor. That part went quickly though and then Evie got her stickers and we headed out. Because we were both restless from so much sitting we headed out to Liberty Center for some fun.


We got some fancy chocolate truffles, some violet lemonades, and Evie got a new dress and then we headed down to the splash pad so she could play while we ate our treats. This center is Evie's FAVORITE place to go hang out. There are cupcake shops, macarons (her favorite), bubble tea, LUSH bath bombs (we got a jiggly tarantula shower jelly today!), and plenty of other fun shops to look at and then of course there are games, a fountain and the splash pad. We stayed for about an hour and a half and then headed back home. 



Then it was time for Harry Potter night at the library! We got to enter through Platform 9 3/4 and then there were potions to make, mandrakes to pot, and a fun scavenger hunt. Evie's favorite character for some reason is Bellatrix Lestrange (she has only seen the first two films so she has no context for this she just likes the way she looks and her wand lol) and she was really excited to be able to hunt her down. She also really enjoyed finding Luna Lovegood. We made snitches too and she got to leave with a wand. It was a lot of fun for all of us and the library was PACKED. When we left we grabbed some ice cream from our favorite shop down the street and then it was time to head home for bed. A busy but really fun day! :)

Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. The Silver Line to Salem...

  It's the first full day of vacation and we got up early this morning and in true east coast style grabbed some Dunkin' Donuts to eat while we headed for the train. Our apartment is a short walk to the bus (or train if we choose) and then right onto the T which is nice but we still ended up walking almost 7 miles today and Evie did about three of them like a champ! The rest she needed a lift for. lol... After a short train ride we took a scenic walk across the Charles River and then it was onto the Museum of Science. Although this is my fifth or sixth time in Boston in recent years I have never done the Museum of Science and it looked really exciting. While we were there we got to play with electricity, robotics, weather, mirrors and lights and a ton more. Evie really liked this interactive station where she could try to guess what the animals were based on their skulls and teeth. Running up that hill...

  It was finally warm enough to go outside for awhile today! It's been very chilly in the mornings lately and while I can appreciate that it's no longer too hot to exist at 10AM I'm also not loving being cooped up inside all day. Evie isn't either. We were both in much better spirits today after being able to spend our lunch outside.  We made some chalk art, made up stories about the characters, and ran and played for awhile before it was time to get ready for the bus. Even then Evie was happy to race me down to the stop and ran around playing and singing while she waited for it to come. Fall is heavy upon us but we were both happy for a little sneak of summer today. :)
