Movie Night: Toy Story

 

Today is movie night!! I don't know how long it's feasible to do these but they are so much fun for me to set up so I hope to make it a regular thing for a long time. Tonight, we had a themed movie night.  This is actually our second one, we did Luca last week and it went pretty well but this week I had more time to get things set up and it was so much fun!



First I always surprise her with the menu and some ticket stubs.  Then when she gets home from school she gets to see the whole set up and we eat dinner together and then snuggle up with popcorn and sometimes a movie theater candy and watch the movie together.



It's a really fun way to relax together and end the week. It also gives me some motivation to tap into my creative side and make a really fun evening for both of us. I still have memories of fun little things my mom did for my siblings and I when I was younger so I hope this is one of those things that sticks with Evie when she is older. <3

Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. The Aquarium upgrade …

  Well today ended up being a crazy day. We had planned to take it easy and get back into the groove after our trip but that didn’t happen at all! Recently Evie got a new fish which she named Ariel. It turned out that Ariel was a boy fish though and as a result he has been trying to get Dorothy to breed which has stressed her out and made her sick. So we got a tank separator but we really needed to put them in their own tanks. Today we ordered one online. The store gave us the wrong size and st first they said oh well just keep it and we decided to try to make it work. But then as the day unfolded we realized that there was just no way we could fit this rank into our house. So we took it back to get a smaller one. But then we ended up getting the wrong tank. So another trip to the pet store and we finally got the tank up and running. Luckily we had cycled water all ready to go in so we were able to get Ariel in pretty quickly. Everyone seems happy but man are we tired!

Chic-fil-A and surprise play dates...

  We are still taking it pretty easy this week with lots of outside play and coloring and board games. Evie finally got the hang of her powerwheel and has been zooming around on it non-stop this week at lunctime. The weather is cooling down some which has been really nice too. Today she got off to school without a hitch and when I picked her up it was time to go straight to dance. After dance class we grabbed some dinner. Evie wanted Chic-fil-A tonight so we stopped and ate outside and it was a nice little dinner date. I am excited that fall is coming up but also a little sad that our days of playing outside and eating outside and just BEING outside in general are quickly coming to an end with the impending cold of winter. So even though we got home close to her usual bedtime we took her powerwheel to the park and then she ended up running into two of her friends and having a short impromptu play date.
