Pie in the face

Today was a weird day. There have been really bad storm warnings all day and we've been packing up to get ready for our trip in two days. Spring break week at school has been mostly games and not a lot of anything else so we're just kind of taking it easy this week. Yesterday Evie told me that she was going to get to pie someone in the face today and she was SOO excited about it so when she got in the car at pickup and looked sad I was surprised. It's been such a fun week it seemed odd to me. When I asked her about it she said not only did they NOT get to pie some one but they didn't even get to watch the pie-ing happen. I did a little research and found out that the class that had raised the most money that night for the fundraiser got to pie someone and unfortunately, that wasn't Evie's class. Maybe it's because I grew up without a lot or maybe it's because even as an adult my disposable income isn't nearly as high as others in my area but I just really hate it when kids end up suffering because of things like that. Of course the school wants to raise money and of course they want to motivate kids to bring in that revenue but for kids like Evie who don't have a lot of family around and who's friends are all in the district (or at least mostly) it just serves to show them early on that people who don't have a lot end up losing out on things. At any rate when we got home the storm had not arrived yet so I let her pie me instead. She had a blast doing it and it was a fun end to our day. :)
