Waterballoons…


It seems like as soon as school let out the weather realized it was summer and it heated up FAST.  Today we set up the pool and while we were waiting for it to fill up we had a water balloon fight. It definitely helped with the temperature but it was still super hot outside so eventually we decided to come in and play instead. Evie has been begging me to start her homeschooling material which we got for next year and even though I really wanted to take a few weeks off I decided to let her start. So far she seems to love it which is really great. We did some math, language, and writing. Then we headed up to Nana’s for dinner and family time!

The Silver Line to Salem...

  It's the first full day of vacation and we got up early this morning and in true east coast style grabbed some Dunkin' Donuts to eat while we headed for the train. Our apartment is a short walk to the bus (or train if we choose) and then right onto the T which is nice but we still ended up walking almost 7 miles today and Evie did about three of them like a champ! The rest she needed a lift for. lol... After a short train ride we took a scenic walk across the Charles River and then it was onto the Museum of Science. Although this is my fifth or sixth time in Boston in recent years I have never done the Museum of Science and it looked really exciting. While we were there we got to play with electricity, robotics, weather, mirrors and lights and a ton more. Evie really liked this interactive station where she could try to guess what the animals were based on their skulls and teeth. Ice, Ice Baby...

    This week along with weather we've been talking about climates and how we are all adapted and suited for where we live. Today we switched up our sensory table for a snowy, icy, arctic one. I wasn't sure how Evie would like this one because while she loves water play she does NOT like to be sticky or slimy. The snow (which is fake snow made from powder ) isn't cold at all but it gets sort of gel like when you mix the two.  She had fun balancing the animals on the ice and digging them into the snow for awhile and then she cautiously asked if she could mix the snow and water. When I told her of course she can she was ecstatic. She found that adding snow to water caused the snow to "melt" and adding the water to the snow melted it down into gelatinous pools of blue "ice".  After lunchtime we took this one outside and she played with it for HOURS. D is for Diagon Alley...

  It's been a crazy week so today we decided to have some fun! Evie is a big Harry Potter fan even though she's only seen the first two movies and we haven't worked through the books quite yet. She's still a little young for some of the content but she loves to hear the stories anyway. So today we decided to use a fictional place to round out our week. We read some of the Tales of Beetle the Bard, had a "Quidditch match" in the living room, decorated a wand for her, and sorted her into a house. Then we finished it up wtih a potions class. For her sorting ceremony I set out four cups and she chose the one she wanted.  I gave her a bottle of vinegar and when she squeezed it into the cup it revealed her house! Ravenclaw it is! She loved the sparkles I put in here too. I suspect when she is sorted later in life she will turn out to be a Hufflepuff rather than a Ravenclaw BUT as a fellow Ravenclaw myself I wasn't sad to see her choose this cup. She definitely d...
